| Abstract: | Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.), Apiaceae, is a commonly used medicinal plant and its essential oil has carminative and antispasmodic medicinal action. It is grown in the Live Pharmacy Program of the Health Department of the Federal District (SES-DF) and the tincture is dispensed to the Unified Health System. The objective of this work was to verify the seasonal variation in the phytochemical profile of the essential oil and tincture produced from fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) at Farmácia Viva at SES-DF, in the rainy and dry seasons. Physicochemical tests were performed on the plant drug for morphoanatomical characterization, foreign material, water content and total ash content. The essential oil was obtained by Clevenger hydrodistillation and analyzed by gas chromatography (GC-MS). For dyes, tests of dry residue, pH, relative density and chromatographic profile by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-DAD) were evaluated. Microbiological analyzes were performed on the plant drug and tincture samples. We obtained three monthly samples in the rainy season (1A, 2A and 3A) and five in the dry season (1B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B). Some characterization and purity tests performed on the plant drug and on the tincture showed results outside the parameters established in official compendia, however without risk of pathogenic microbial contamination to humans because the plant drug is produced exclusively for handling the herbal medicine. In the microbiological analysis of the dye, no pathogenic microorganisms were found according to the legislation. No influence of seasonality was observed in the tests performed. The major compounds in the essential oil were trans-anethole (90.6% to 94.4%), fenchone (0.8% to 4.6%) and estragole (3.2% to 3.7%). In the chromatographic profile of the dye, the peak (tR) 30.09 minutes was observed, presuming to be of a flavonoid nature by ultraviolet spectrum. A positive and significant relationship was observed between fruit production, minimum temperature and precipitation. The plant cycle in experiment A was 10 months while in experiment B it was 13 months with the longest and uneven reproductive phase. In the seasonal evaluation, there was no correlation between composition and meteorological parameters, indicating the temporal adaptability of the species. |
