| Abstract: | their physical, emotional, social, and economic impacts. The oncological diagnosis can be overwhelming in the patient's life, requiring immediate interventions given the potential for rapid and fatal progression of the disease. With advances in anticancer therapies, there has been a significant increase in survival rates, especially among young women of reproductive age. This new scenario makes quality of life during the post-treatment period a central concern, particularly regarding the preservation of fertility. Treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgeries can lead to premature gonadal failure and infertility, directly affecting these women's reproductive plans. In this context, it becomes essential to include fertility preservation strategies as part of the comprehensive care for patients, aiming not only to maintain physical health but also to promote dignity and well-being. Fertility protection should be guided by an approach grounded in the Healthcare Bioethics, which prioritizes empathetic, welcoming communication based on clear information, enabling shared and conscious decision-making. Despite the relevance of the topic, discussions in the literature exploring the bioethical aspects related to the effects of oncological treatment on fertility are still scarce. This theoretical work aims to conduct a bibliographic review with the goal of grounding bioethical reflections from the perspective of Health Care on the subject, contributing essential elements to mitigate the impacts of cancer on the reproductive and mental health of patients undergoing oncological treatment. Fertility preservation in young women without children or with reproductive desire, diagnosed with cancer is a growing and legitimate demand. Recognizing fertility as a lifelong goal for many patients, it is imperative that healthcare professionals incorporate this care as a component of cancer treatment, not as a secondary concern. The approach based on Bioethics of Healthcare proves particularly powerful in this context, valuing dialogue, active listening, respect for individuality, and the promotion of human dignity. By shedding light on the bioethical aspects involved in fertility decisions in oncology, this work seeks to contribute to the development of more sensitive, informed, and integrated practices that consider not only survival but also the quality of life of women after battling cancer. |
