Abstract:	In 1995, Peru and Ecuador engaged in a serious armed conflict in a remote undemarcated area of the common border. The four Guarantor Countries of the Rio Protocol, including Brazil, intervened and managed to bring the parties to a ceasefire and the signing of a Peace Agreement, which is still in force today.The research aims to answer the question: after centuries of hostilities, what explains the sustainability of peace between Peru and Ecuador?The hypothesis is that the persistence of peace over the last decades is the result of a construction based on the positive redefinition of reciprocal perceptions, the building of mutual trust, the assimilation of new actors and issues on the bilateral agenda, and the historical interdependence between the two countries. The conceptual binomial sensitivity/vulnerability is important in trying to explain the greater harmony in the relationship. The web of mechanisms woven with peace, the maintenance of military spending at mutually acceptable levels, and the growth and diversification of bilateral trade reflect the change in direction following the acceptance of peace. This is qualitative research that uses concepts from Keohane and Nye's theory of complex interdependence and a constructivist perspective, developed around three moments of construction and reinforcement of interdependence, and three axes: political-diplomatic; military; economic-commercial.
