Abstract: Introduction: One of the complications of diabetes is the diabetic foot, which results from several changes occurring alone or together in the patients' feet or lower limbs. This study is mainly concerned with identifying the social representations of the elderly with diabetic feet monitored by the Rapha® project team. The Rapha® Device is a technological innovation in health, which associates the use of latex (biomaterial with healing properties) with an equipment emitting LED lights, whose principle of action is phototherapy. This equipment is being produced to provide a cure for diabetic foot wounds and has been developed by a group of researchers from the Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Brasília. We will approach the process evidenced by the social representations that is a complement to the process, we will not deal with the technological power, nor the latex lamina, nor the LED light emitter. Objective: To identify the perceptions and social representations of elderly people with diabetic feet, accompanied by the project team, about the perspectives of the Rapha® Device. Methodology: This is a qualitative and quantitative study of a descriptive and exploratory nature. Qualitative research, because it is concerned with human behavior in the face of social facts, deals directly with the subjective side of people, and requires from the researcher greater theoretical and methodological knowledge, especially with regard to the scientificity of the proposed study. From a quantitative perspective, we worked, in this study, with the application IRAMUTEQ 0.7, which allows statistical analysis of textual corpus, exposing in a quantitative way the information collected. The sample consisted of 12 elderly people with diabetic feet. Data collection was carried out through the application of a questionnaire and an interview to identify the socioeconomic profile of the interviewees. The analysis of the data of the qualitative research was carried out through the content analysis proposed by Bardin, which aims to discover structures and content that reaffirm the purpose of the messages. This process takes place through a series of methods that aim to analyze communications through a systematic process of detailing the thematic of messages and for quantitative analysis, the software IRAMUTEQ 0.7 was used. In the research, the project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Brasília (UnB), under proof 085906/2018 and CAAE no 94910718.5.0000.0030. All individuals were volunteers and signed a Free and Informed Consent Form (ICF). Results and Discussion: It is observed that the results obtained through the analysis of the word cloud, in relation to the statements of the elderly with diabetic feet were: wound, day, foot, whole, God and family. These words, in the interviewees' view, indicate that the diabetic foot wound requires daily confrontation by the individual and the family. Through the speeches and speeches collected in the interviews, we seek to understand the reality of the elderly with diabetic foot, as well as their social representations about their health problem. The information collected allowed the configuration of four groups identified as dimensions: (1) Representation of the wound; (2) Feelings about the problem; (3) Changes in the family scope; and (4) Expectation with respect to the Rapha® Device. Conclusion: The main social representations identified in the group of elderly people with diabetic feet were also four. In Dimension 1, the difficulty in dealing with the diabetic foot wound, this is expressed in the notion of disorder, discomfort, delay in healing and limitation in the tasks. In Dimension 2, the representations identified were: fear, sadness, anguish and faith, signaling the importance of introducing psychological support and constant family support to the treatment. In Dimension 3, the representations revolved around the idea of family dependence and loss in social relationships. In Dimension 4, representations about Rapha® pointed out that the Device represents hope for healing, autonomy and resumption of activities of daily living for these elderly people.
