| Abstract: | This work presents the mechanism of water retention in mortars of rendering with admixtures in a tecnologic way. It was, specifícally, foccused the action of water retaining and viscosity enhancing admixtures and air entraining agents. Three experimental projects were developed for this object. The first project concentrated on the evaluation of the retention of water in the mortars, promoted by the air entraining admixtures. In the second one, the operational mechanism of two retainers admixtures was analyzed with two types of admixtures in two different viscosities and their influences in the reologicals properties ofthe rendering mortars, besides evaluating the water retention. The third project was to verify and evaluate the effects of the use of the retainers admixtures associated with the air entraining, in the capacity of retention of water of the mortars. As a complementation of the work, with the intention to compare the performance of the admixtures studied, it was done a punctual and comparative analysis with mortar composed by cement, lime and sand. All the analysis of the mechanism of water retention was accomplished with base in an adapted methodology o f water retetion prescribed by CSTB 2669-4, using the funnel of modified Büchner. In general the results showed that the retainers admixtures employed was effective in the reduction of the superficial tension (in aqueous solution), making that mortars produced with such admixtures obtained air entraining between 9% and 16%. The presence of air bubbles originating from the surfactants (air entraining) in the mortars did not influence positively in the capacity of water retention. The mortars produced with retainers admixtures with same viscosity, but differentiated origin, presented similar behavior in relation to the appraised dependent variables. It was also observed that the best form of evaluating the water retention of mortars, is for the analysis of the curve o f water retention, instead of just considering the final value. The methodology used in the determination of the water retention of the mortars supplied useful information, besides to be of easy execution and to present little dispersed results. |
