Abstract:	Climate change and the increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations have been global challenges in recent decades. One internationally proposed solution to mitigate these effects is the carbon market and environmental services derived from the conservation of biomes. Although this market has been improved since its initial proposal, the lack of regulation, oversight, and methodological standardization in Brazil still creates uncertainties, raising questions about who truly benefits. Brazil, without official carbon market regulation, engages in voluntary projects and has vast forests that can generate income, especially the Amazon, due to its large biomass and soil carbon stocks. Among the areas of greatest importance is AMACRO, an acronym for parts of the states of Amazonas (AM), Acre (AC), and Rondônia (RO), considered a new deforestation frontier. This study updated the Baccini et al. (2012) dataset — which estimated aboveground biomass in the world’s pantropical region — using free geoprocessing tools and data from MapBiomas, allowing the calculation of carbon stock in 2010 and 2022 in AMACRO and its Protected Areas (Conservation Units and Indigenous Lands). The results indicated that AMACRO had 16,735,106,688.19 tCO₂e in 2010 and 15,738,941,704.89 tCO₂e in 2022. Based on biomass and carbon differences, potential earnings of US$ 17,555,170,193.73 for timber and US$ 1,243,219,372.86 for agriculture were estimated for the period. Financial gains, if deforestation had been avoided, were estimated at US$ 7,202,272,829.29 in the voluntary carbon market, US$ 25,183,050,777.93 in the Green CPR, and US$ 6,179,308,652.82 in the standing timber market. Additionally, a simplified analysis using the REDD+ project methodology estimated a possible gain of US$ 22,345,098,872.39 for AMACRO's preservation areas, while in Green CPR projects this value could reach US$ 55,708,491,415.89. The use of geoprocessing tools proved effective in estimating biomass and carbon in AMACRO, supporting the development of sustainable management strategies and contributing to the regulation of markets that favor forest conservation in Brazil.
