| Abstract: | Efficient management of operations in the agricultural sector relies on production planning, a crucial process that organizes and optimizes activities and workload. This leads to reduced production time and costs, ensuring maximum efficiency by determining what, when, and where tasks should be performed. Decision support mathematical models are valuable tools in this context, as they can incorporate various data to find the best ways to organize, minimizing costs or maximizing profits. This allows farmers to adjust their planting and harvesting strategies in each area, considering temperature scenarios, precipitation, and labor availability. This work, therefore, proposes a decision support mathematical model for agricultural activities at the operational level, aiming to improve the sector's management and efficiency. For the modeling process, a systematic and narrative review of the state of the art of similar models was also conducted, followed by a case study with a significant organic farm in the Federal District. The mathematical model employed only linear variables and constraints, with the objective function of minimizing the total distance traveled to meet all the producer's activity demands within the available days. The model follows a routing format, where the machinery travels a specific path to meet the demands, using nodes (plots) with their respective distances in meters as the route. To evaluate efficiency and resolution performance, resolution times were compared across different planning periods – 7, 15, 30, and 60 days – using five different solvers: Gurobi, CPLEX, GLPK, CBC, and HiGHS, the first two being paid and the others free. In all periods, optimal solutions were found in an appropriate time, with the solvers managing to find the optimal solution in up to 3 seconds for the 7-day period. From the 15-day window onwards, the paid solvers Gurobi and CPLEX showed statistically equivalent performance, standing out significantly in all subsequent periods, especially the last one of 60 days. Among the free solvers, CBC and HiGHS achieved the best results, with CBC being slightly more efficient than HiGHS; both are recommended for resolution in all periods. In contrast, the free solver GLPK had the worst performance in all periods, taking much longer in the 60-day window, making it not recommended among the free solvers for the resolution of this mathematical model. This study contributed significantly to operational planning in organic production farms by developing a validated mathematical model solved within appropriate timeframes, consolidating itself as a viable tool to support decisions in this context. The model was validated with real information from the conducted case study, ensuring its functionality in the presented scenarios. |
