Abstract:	The study scrutinized the role of the humanities in teacher training courses for professionals engaged in Early Childhood Education and the Initial Years of Primary Education. In pursuit of this objective, the research sought to achieve the following specific goals: to compare the intentions outlined in resolutions CNE/CP no. 1/2006, 2/2015, and 2/2019, concerning humanities studies; to investigate the stances advocated by Anfope (National Association for the Training of Education Professionals) regarding teacher training for roles in early childhood and initial years; to understand the perspectives of pedagogy course coordinators regarding Resolution CNE/CP no. 2/2019 concerning the training of teachers for Early Childhood Education and the Initial Years of Primary Education; and to deliberate on the significance of humanities studies in the education of teachers for Early Childhood Education and the Initial Years. Employing a qualitative approach, the study analyzed resolutions CNE/CP no. 1/2006, 2/2015, and 2/2019, as well as pedagogical projects from public universities in Brazil. It administered questionnaires and conducted interviews with the coordinators of these courses. The theoretical discourse was grounded in the works of American philosopher Martha Nussbaum (2013, 2014, 2015) and authors addressing human formation, such as Dalbosco (2015, 2019, 2021, 2022), Goergen (2016, 2019, 2021), Biesta (2017), among others. As a result, the research underscored the significance of humanities in the training of teachers for Early Childhood Education and the Initial Years, emphasizing the necessity of a robust foundation in these areas for critical and ethical formation, fostering independent thinking amidst the intricacies of child education and democratic citizenship development.
