dc.description.abstract1	The present dissertation is founded on Wilhelm Reich’s principles of repressive sexual ideology and on the cultural industry phenomenon. It purports to demonstrate that the historical of female sexual discrimination has benn reinforced in the last decades by a massive cultural productions which supports the aspirations of a dominant social group. In this line of investigation, it regards the soap-opera as the most representative product of cultural industry in Brazil, due both for he characteristics of its prodution and of its consumption. Taking as a point of reference the soap-opera Os Gigantes (The Giants') by Lauro Cesar Muniz, it tries to detect what moral values were apprehended by a certain group of women from the soap-opera under consideration an whether these values wold bear any similarity with those they had received from family and church education. At the same time it examines the sexual behavior of these women, for possible contradictions between the ideology accepted by them as valid, and their sexual practice. Its give rise to a comparative study, both upper class housewives and lower class maids living in the Plano Piloto of Brasilia were interviewed, thus enlarging the scope of the present investigation.	pt_BR
