Abstract:	Leadership is a skill identified in all of humankind's history, required in any group of people who have a common goal, including health services, as the ability to lead effectively reflects directly on the service provided and the quality of the assistance. The profession of dietitian requires this ability to be able to promote health through food, as described in several Brazilian documents. The objective of this work was to investigate how Brazilian dietitians perceive themselves in relation to the exercise of their leadership in the profession. The instrument proposed by Melo (2004) "Management Style Assessment Scale" – “Escala de Avaliação de Estilo Gerencial” (EAEG) - was used, after being adapted and validated for the self-evaluation model of Brazilian dietitians, through the technique of judges. The alpha tests of Cronbach, KMO and Bartlett were calculated to evaluate the reliability of the instrument. This was applied in a sample of 252 nutritionists randomly recruited by social networks, where socio- demographic characteristics were also investigated, as well as the relationships of respondents with leadership performance and qualification. The data were processed by the SPSS program for exploratory analysis. Mean scores were calculated by scaling factor, hypotheses for regression models, normality tests and descriptive analyzes. The means and proportions of the sample were calculated and compared with the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. After the analysis of judges, the instrument obtained a total of 20 questions, divided by the factors: relationship (9), task (7) and situational (4). The reliability tests had excellent results (Cronbach's alpha of 0.884, KMO of 0.895 and Bartlett of 0.000), statistically validating the adapted instrument. Regarding the contact of dietitians with the leadership theme, most of them reported that they didn’t have professional experience before graduation (64.0%), didn’t have the role of leader before being a dietitian (72.0%), and didn’t have any leadership training (64.5%), indicating that they have few inputs to critically evaluate their performance as a leader. Dietitians have assessed their leadership as more inclined to the relationship factor, and evaluate their leadership positively with about 80% of achievement, that is, they deem their leadership appropriate and unlikely to be improved. More studies on this theme are necessary to create and implement strategies aimed at improving the leadership of the dietitian in order to deliver a more quality service to the population.
