Abstract:	The dual career is the central object of this study. Being the conciliation between studies and high-performance sports, this multifactorial and dynamic process involves the athlete in various stages of psychosocial, psychological, educational, sports and financial development. Therefore, in face of the common end of the sports career, the preparation in the transition out of the sport in search of the insertion in the labor market is the main tension by means of great availability of energy for the work due to the precocity of the sports end. From this understanding we have chosen the objective of analyzing the development of the dual career of former athletes benefited by the Program Bolsa Atleta of the Federal District in the period 2014/2015, as well as their transitions out of the sport. In view of this, the exploratory and qualitative study was developed from three methodological moments, a systematic national review about dual career; the application of a structured questionnaire for initial apprehensions about the context of 10 former athletes benefited by the program; and the conduction of semi-structured interviews to deepen the understanding of the dynamics of the dual career of seven participants as athletes and how they went through their transition outside the sport. As a result, we perceive the convergence with international studies regarding the involuntary termination of the sports career through non-normative events, the role of the family during the dual career and the withdrawal of the . In contrast, we find in the analysis of the majority of former athletes the prioritization of the education in the conciliation and the entry of almost the entire sample in higher education, illustrating unprecedented tensions in the dynamics between the sports development processes and the performance requirements of the Bolsa Atleta DF program, the influence of the well-educated family and the low investment potential of the studied sports, configuring the voluntary termination of the sports career as a normative event by betting on the studies as preparation for competition for places in quality higher education.
