Abstract:	This dissertation approaches maternity among women living in administrative regions from Distrito Federal and Valparaíso de Goiás. The study to a large extent focuses on histories about upbringing in order to reflect upon the intersection of mother’s existence - along with their process of maturity - and their offspring decisions of movements and dislocations. Therefore, the dissertation brings some debates on dilemmas posed by the coexistence and intersections with the other in states of happiness and suffering. One more outline concerns the circumstance of women living in periferic and low income cities. As a result, the study argues that raising a child and coming of age in these cities presupposes specific issues that are historically related with social class, race and gender. Finally, the dissertation is directed to promove debates on women experiences of upbringing and conviviality with children inside a socially habitated universe. The meetings with the group of women were composed of two paths. The first consisted in a series of participations in meetings at the Centro de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS) established in Santa Maria dedicated to the relatives of persons described as addicted. Due to the meetings, I was introduced to women that eventually invited me to home visits. The second path unfolded as indications given by some of the women directed me to a web of references founded in neighborhood relations and friendship. Having the institution (CAPS) as a starting point, the decision of attending the meetings was made with the awareness that people who frequent the institution exists inside and beyond its boundaries. In front of these aims, throughout the text, we draw attention to various debates such as care, disabilities, manhood, employment, housekeeping, sickness and domestic violence. The proliferation of discussions proposed by the dissertation seeks to walk side by side with the profundity and plurality of women experience inside contexts marked by the reification and colonization of brazilian society.
