Abstract: The use of biopolymers for modifications of cementitious materials is already consolidated, being the basis for a large quantity of admixtures. The cactus Opuntia ficus indica is known in Brazil as the Forage Palm or fig tree of India. In Mexico as Nopal. It has been applied in the civil construction for thousands of years, with record of use of this product in the construction in the Mexican pyramids, around 100 D.C., until the present day. It is used with the function of improving the performance of coating mortars, paints, waste water treatment and others. This work evaluated the use of mucilage of cactus Opuntia Ficus Indica (MOFI) for the purpose of improving microconcrete performance. The research was based on the proposal of an affordable, practical and economical admixture to increase the properties of cement materials. In the properties of fresh state were performed tests of consistency. In the properties of hardened state, compression strength tests were performed at the ages of 1, 3, 7 and 28 days. In the microconcrete dosage, an admixture was used to replace the water at 0%, 40% and 100%. The results showed the influence of the MOFI admixture on the mechanical properties, with an increase in the compression strength of 23%. In the properties of fresh state the different methods confirm the influence on the rheological properties with the increase of the drainage tension.
