Abstract:	In this study, we carried out another reading of abolitionism in Minas Gerais, guided by two main objectives. First of all, we show the historiographical construction of the absence of tensions and conflicts, the peaceful atmosphere that would have been the abolition of slavery in the Minas province. As historical movement that it was, the abolitionism lies permeated of fights, disputes, resistance, mediations and negotiations, presenting other faces. It involved other protagonists and fight strategies, besides the debate within the offices and the Parliament and also of organized social movements. The other objective was to give visibility to other abolitionist actors involvement, especially the female slaves and free women, breaking the silence discursively built around their actions. The first ones, particularly by the practices of insubordination, rebellion and negotiation and also by the use of police and justice, which gave them public visibility. We argue that such practices had a political dimension that ended questioning the seigniorial domain, the social legitimacy of slavery, contributing to the destruction of its institution and the abolition. As for the free women of the upper and medium classes of society, its performance on the public scenario of Minas Gerais, formed under the signs of domesticity, turns out to subvert it, because hers pro-abolition activism had political nature and purposes.
